WORCESTER – City Manager of Worcester, Ed Augustus, announced at a press conference on Thursday that Worcester Public Schools will be closed on Friday, March 13. Cleaning of schools would take place on Friday.

Superintendent Maureen Binienda stated she expects schools to be open on Monday.

Augustus informed the public that three individuals within Worcester Public Schools are under investigation for possibly being exposed to Coronavirus. The three people are at two schools: North High School and Chandler Magnet Elementary School. Each had been in contact with a known carrier of the virus.

This potential exposure was discovered today. It was indicated that at least one may be a student, but officials did not provide details due to medical privacy concerns.

The three people under investigation are being tested. Augustus was hopeful those tests would be completed over the weekend.
