Chevy Chase Bringing Christmas Vacation to Hanover Theatre in November

On Wednesday, November 20, actor Chevy Chase will appear at the Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Art for a presentation of the Christmas classic National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

The event — which starts at 7 PM — will feature a Q&A with Chase following the showing of the film.

Tickets are now on sale to members and go on sale to the public on Friday, October 4 at 10 AM. 

Ticket prices start at $50.

 

Worcester’s Black Box Theater Named After Jean McDonough 

Downtown Worcester’s first black box theater will be named the Jean McDonough Arts Center after Ms. McDonough contributed $2 million for construction and operations. 
 
The Jean McDonough Arts Center — located at 20 Franklin St. and connected to Worcester PopUp– is scheduled to open in Spring 2020. The theater will offer 5,000+ square feet of flexible performance space, with seating for nearly 300.
 
The theater’s layout can be customized to suit the needs of individual events, such as theatrical performances, live music, lectures, and special events.

Worcester Art Museum to Present New Photography Exhibition

Next month, the Worcester Art Museum [WAM] will present Photo Revolution: Andy Warhol to Cindy Sherman — a new exhibit that aims to show photography’s influence on contemporary art in the mid-to late 20th century. 

The exhibit will include more than 225 works demonstrating how photography proved foundational to major art movements in the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, the exhibition will be on view at WAM from Nov. 16, 2019 to Feb. 16, 2020.

“Many of the most visually striking and politically or emotionally engaging moments of the 20th century—from the assassination of President Kennedy, to the Vietnam war, to the moon landing—occurred during a period of transition from the dominance of the still photographic image to the increasing prevalence of film and video,” said the exhibition’s curator Nancy Kathryn Burns, Stoddard Associate Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs at the Worcester Art Museum.

 

Worcester Chamber Music Society to Present ‘Night Music’

On Sunday, Nov. 3,  the Worcester Chamber Music Society and special guests Ashleigh Gordon and Rhonda Rider will present “Night Music” — a nocturnal program that examines the dark hours of the day from a variety of perspectives. 

The concert will feature Arthur Foote’s  A Night Piece, Franz Schubert’s elegant Notturno, Luigi Boccherini’s Night Music of Madrid and Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht.

The performance will take place at 4 PM in the Curtis Performance Hall at Assumption College and will feature a half-hour, pre-concert talk by violinist Rohan Gregory.

Tickets are $36 for adults, $10 for students, $5 for EBT card holders, and youth 17 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased here: www.worcesterchambermusic.org.
