BLACKSTONE, MA—A family, particularly a little girl, is devastated after their pet cat was found shot by an arrow and subsequently had to be euthanized from its injuries in Blackstone on Thursday night.

Acting Chief Gregory Gilmore said that the Blackstone Police Department is actively investigating the incident, which happened around 7 p.m. on Thursday, when the department received a call from the cat’s family on Old Mendon Street.

The owners of the cat took it to a local animal hospital. The cat was subsequently transported to Tufts Animal Hospital in Grafton where the cat was put down.

The Blackstone Animal Control Officer and a Blackstone Police detective immediately launched an investigation into the incident. As of Friday morning, it is unknown who shot the cat and police are working to identify the person responsible, according to police.

The arrow that struck the cat was short and was possibly fired from a crossbow.

Anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area last night or has information about this incident is asked to call Blackstone police at 508-883-1212.
