WORCESTER – A District Court judge ordered a local man held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Tuesday, May 11, after being arraigned for a fatal shooting on Chandler St.
Angel Ortiz-Santos, 28, of Worcester, faces assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury and illegal possession of a firearm.
Police officers found Carlos Cruz, 44, also of Worcester, wounded from gunfire in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 8, outside the Paku Lounge at 215 Chandler St.
According to Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr., Cruz had multiple gunshot wounds when he ran across Chandler St. around 1:30 AM.
First responders transported Cruz to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 2:13 AM.
Ortiz-Santos turned himself in to Worcester Police during the morning on Tuesday.
The judge continued the case until May 28, when the dangerousness hearing will occur.
The judge also revoked Ortiz-Santos’ bail on an open case in Dudley District Court, where he faces a charge for operating under the influence of alcohol.
