Worcester Man Indicted for Murder in Fatal Shooting in May

WORCESTER – Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr.’s office announced the indictment of a local man for a shooting in Saturday, May 8.

A Grand Jury indicted Angel Ortiz-Santos, 28, of Worcester, for Murder, Possession of a Firearm without an FID card, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID card.

Carlos Cruz, 44, sustained multiple gunshot wounds outside the Paku Lounge on Chandler Street around 1:30 AM on May 8. Cruz ran across the street after being shot, where he collapsed on the sidewalk. Emergency responders transported Cruz to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A judge ordered Ortiz-Santos held without bail on Tuesday, May 11, during an arraignment on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The indictment moves the case to Worcester Superior Court where Ortiz-Santos’ indictment will take place for murder, firearm and ammunition charges. Arraignment has yet to be scheduled.
